Bubbles Below Scuba Charters, Kauai
Boat Dives

Kaimanu, Seabird, in Hawaiian is a 35ftX9ft. custom built Radon Dive boat.  She is very stable, roomy, and easy to dive from and get back into.  She also has a dry, shaded cuddy area forward, a fresh hot water shower, and an on-board head.  A camera can be showered off with fresh water or, if you prefer, with advance notice we will bring a wet bag for you.   Our toll free number is the same as the vessel’s name 1-866-KAIMANU

Seabirds are commonly sighted as we travel to dive sites.  Boobies, frigates and tropic birds add their graceful flights to our ocean scenery which also includes many marine mammals.  The humpback whales migrate to Hawaiian waters every winter, while we have different species of dolphins some are also migratory, but we also have resident Hawaiian Spinner dolphins.  These smaller dolphins are typically seen from the boat year round.  Or, come in the winter and listen to the humpback’s song, sometimes the audio portion of the dive equals the visual!

Kauai Dives

Bubbles Below offers dives on the south and west shores of Kauai and also dives to the island of Niihau and Lehua Crater.  Diving along the south shore is awesome and abundant.  Divers should not miss out on Kauai diving as it is home to many Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles, population: A LOT!  Kauai boasts a “senior” population of turtles with many individuals 300lb.plus!   This is one of the truly unique visions that Kauai diving gives.  From sharks to shrimps, our dive sites will keep you entertained and using your camera.  Frogfish, pregnant male pipefish, lionfish, white tip reef sharks and large schools are typical visions.

We tend to offer Kauai dives as drift dives and yet we will still give you an anchor line to ascend up.  This enables us to travel one direction down the reef line which gives great chances at more encounters with a larger variety of marine life.  Or, if the divers prefer to stay stationary, we will use a mooring site.  We feel that a dive plan on any given day is up to the divers on that dive charter.   On Thurs. we offer our 2 tank twilight/night dive which is very critter intensive!   Meeting between 4:00pm and 4:30pm depending on the season, we first dive at the crepuscular timeframe which is the “changing of the guard” on the reef.  You will see lots of jacks cruising, looking for a quick bite, while many species are busy broadcast spawning.  Later, we get a night dive filled with the night’s activities of sleeping parrotfish cocooned in a mucus sack and Spanish Dancer nudibranchs abound.

Niihau/Lehua Crater

During the months of May thru Sept. the north and west swells which pound the Hawaiian north shores subside.  This enables us to travel to Niihau , Lehua Crater, and also Mana Crack on the northwestern shores of Kauai .

We were the first to offer dive charters to Niihau and Lehua Crater starting back in 1984.  The diving is truly world class diving, with beautiful vertical walls, unbelievable huge caverns, large black coral trees, and a great abundance of marine life.  There is an excellent chance that you will see Hawaiian Monk Seals here, which has the distinction of being the most endangered marine mammal in the USA .  Schools of grey reef sharks and white tip reef sharks are usually present as well as we have seen a great variety of pelagic species of sharks.  The channel crossing is a trip all on its own, and through the years we have had sightings of sperm whales, pilot whales, rough toothed dolphins, bottlenose, killer whales, and false killer whales.  The channel crossing takes 2 hrs. to get across and usually 2.5hrs. to return against the wind.  Many consider this the roughest ocean crossing they have ever done.  Seasickness is a real issue due to the nitrogen levels incurred thru the day of diving, and then dehydrating yourself on the way home.

We are offering this 3 tank trip on Wed. and Sat. meeting at 6:45am .  There are no anchor lines here.  This is for experienced divers only with recent diving experience, due to the strength of the currents, and potential roughness of the water. We are requesting that divers dive with us prior to a Niihau charter so divers can learn our drift diving techniques and we can assess diver’s abilities.  Depth ranges for Niihau charters are as follows: 1st dive 100-50ft average: 80ft, 2nd dive 80ft-50 ft average: 60ft, 3rd dive 70ft-40ft. average 50s.  Plan that you will need advance reservations
