DSL Setup: Windows 2000 with Dynamic (DHCP) or Static IP
In order to get your DSL working on your computer running Windows 2000 or
NT, you will need to input certain IP information by following the steps
described below, and using the settings that were provided to you (IP
address, gateway address, subnet mask, and DNS server addresses). Follow
these instrutions:
First, go to Start and open Control Panel. Find the icon for Network
Connections and open it.
Once in the Network Dialup Connections window, open the Local
Area Connection icon:
Once in the Local Area Connection Properties, scroll down in the
"Components checked are used by this connection:" window until you
find an item called "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)." Click on TC/PIP
only once (do not double click) and then Right Click the
Properties button below it.
Now it's time to configure the IP address section:
- If you purchased Residential DSL, click here
to set up dynamic IP address assignment.
- If you purchased Business DSL, click here
for your static IP address assignment.
If you purchased a Residential DSL package of any
bandwidth, follow these instructions:
First, click the radio button labeled "Obtain an IP address
automatically." This will disable the following 3 fields:
IP address, Subnet mask, and Default Gateway.
On the same screen, click the radio button "Obtain DNS server address
automatically." Again, the 2 DNS servers below that
fields will be disabled. Finally, click OK (there is no need to
click on the Advanced button).
Click the OK button and close all windows. Now open your Internet
browser and try to go to any site. You should now be connected to the
Internet at high speed via your DSL connection. If not, call us and will
help you troubleshoot.
If you purchased a Business DSL package
of any bandwidth, follow these instructions:
First, click the radio button labeled "Use the following IP
address:" This will enable the following 3 fields:
- IP address: Carefully type in the IP address or address block
assigned by Hawaii Online.
- Subnet mask: Carefully type in the subnet mask assigned by
Hawaii Online.
- Default gateway: Carefully type in the Gateway address

help you troubleshoot.
