DSL Setup: Windows 95/Windows98 with Dynamic (DHCP) or Static IP
In order to get your DSL working on your computer running Windows 95 or
Windows98, you will need to input certain IP information by following the
steps described below, and using the settings that were provided to you
(IP address, gateway address, subnet mask, and DNS server addresses).
Follow these instructions:
From the Desktop, first right click on Network Neighborhood and open
Properties.
Next, in the Network window, scroll down in the "The following
network components are installed:" window to the item called
"Ethernet Adapter - TCP/IP" (note: wording will vary with computer
and OS). Highlight it (single left click) and then click the
Properties button.
Now it's time to configure the IP address section:
- If you purchased Residential DSL, click
here to set up dynamic IP address assignment.
- If you purchased Business DSL, click here for
your static IP address assignment.
If you purchased a Residential
DSL package of any bandwidth, follow these instructions:
- First, click on the "IP Address" tab. You will see 2 radio
buttons. Click inside the one called "Obtain an IP address
automatically." This will disable the IP Address and subnet Mask
boxes.
- Next, click on the "DNS Configuration" tab. Click on the radio
button called "Disable DNS" . This will disable all the DNS
server information boxes below.
- Finally, click the OK button and close all windows. Now, open
your Internet browser and try to go to any site. You should now be
connected to the Internet at high speed via your DSL connection. If
not, call us and will help you troubleshoot.
If you purchased a Business DSL package
of any bandwidth, follow these instructions:
First, click on the "IP Address" tab. You will see 2 radio
buttons. Click inside the one called "Specify an IP address."
This will enable the IP Address and subnet Mask boxes below.
- IP address - Carefully type in the IP address or address
block assigned by Hawaii Online.
- Subnet mask - Carefully type in the subnet mask assigned by
Hawaii Online.
Next, click on the "Gateway" tab. In the "New gateway"
box, carefully type in the gateway address provided to you by Hawaii
Online and then click the Add button. The new gateway address
should appear in the "Installed Gateways" box below.
Next, click on the "DNS Configuration" tab. Click on the
radio button called "Enable DNS" This will enable all
the DNS server information boxes below. Type in the following
settings:
- Host: Type in the word Host.
- Domain: Type in the word Domain.
- DNS Server Search Order:
- Carefully type in 64.75.176.66 and click the
Add button.
- 64.75.176.12 and click the
Add button.
- Domain Suffix Search Order: leave blank.
- Click the OK button and close all windows. Now open your Internet
browser and try to go to any site. You should now be connected to
the Internet at high speed via your DSL connection. If not, call us
and will help you troubleshoot.
