Noni
is one of the most important plants in Hawaiian pharmecolgy. The aroma of
Noni is truly awesome, somewhat like bleu cheese. Some say "disgusting" or "horrid" or "stinks bad" or worse. And, it doesn't taste good either! Yet, it is well-known to be one of the main healers among the traditional Hawai`i medicinal plants.
We use it quite frequently for healing cuts and as
a blood purifier that enhances the immune system and cleanses bacteria from the
body. The fruit and its juices have been used in the treatment of diabetes, heart troubles and high blood pressure, with different portions prescribed for different illnesses. In these days of ozone depletion, noni is useful in the treatment of skin cancers.
The ripe fruit can be used as a poultice for facial blemishes, rubbed until the oil disappears, and also to draw out the pus and core from an infected sore or boil, such as with a staph infection.
You can use it right from the tree or draw the juices out of it by putting the
fruit in a glass jar set it in the sun and let the juices drain to the
bottom. |
