Life In The Islands (Pictorial)

My fishing partner, Itsu Sakata, and I are admiring our morning shoreline catch.

Every spring we look forward to viewing the migrating whales as they pass through the islands on their way to the north-west. Large pods of dolphins usually accompany them on their journey and can be seen when traveling the coastlines of Kaua'i. Being the official greeters of our oceans, their curiosity and playful personalities are always a welcome treat to the local boaters. They seem willing to provide entertainment and enjoyment to all who get a chance to visit their ocean playground. Each of my children have petted a dolphin in the wild from our 14ft boat. A experience they still cherish and has embedded within them a strong feeling of bonding and respect for our ocean going friends.

Growing up on Kaua'i can be fun! who needs expensive fancy theme-parks when you have the largest swimming pool in the world right in your own back yard. Some locations (like the one shown here) comes equipped with its own natural whirlpool.

Kaua'i has more hiking trails that one would expect. Trails for the most novice hiker to the most experienced backpacker will find a trail providing the level of challenge desired. Each trail offers its own unique settings with fantastic views of our island. Whether your choice has taken you to the cliffs and valleys of the Waimea Canyon (Grand Canyon of the Pacific) or to the trails running along our Napali cost line, each will impress upon you the uniqueness of our island.

SUGI GROVE is one of our favorite picnic spots when enjoying the back roads of Kokee forest. (Can you find Sugi Grove in one of my maps?)
