Quote from Lonely Planet Hawaii, The Big Island , "This place is a fairy tale realized, and if ever a temptation arose to break the Lonely Planet writers golden rule, the Hobbit House is it. Romantic and whimsical in a classy, accomplished way, your soul will smile when you realize it's all yours..."
Adventures begin at the storybook "Hobbit House" Hawaii honeymoon cottage located in private seclusion on the lush, tropical Mauna Loa mountainside. Sweeping views of orchard and ranch land down to the blue pacific shoreline greet the visitor to this Waiohinu village hideaway.
Watch humpback whales, dolphins, and endangered sea turtles from the palm studded black sand beaches of Punalu'u. Hike early morning the nature trails of Manuka Refuge seeking elusive glimpses of Hawaii's rare forest songbirds. Carry a picnic lunch to the steep olivine-specked dunes of Hawaii's famous Green Sand Beach. See fisherman hauling catches up the 40'-cliffs or casting throw nets into the swirling surf backwaters. Spend the day in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Kayak, snorkel, golf, or just wander the sleepy villages amidst the monkeypod trees so loved by Mark Twain.
Then return to your private "Hobbit House" Cottage for a luxury bath while the soft light of day fades from the valleys below.
Hobbit House is one mile off the beaten highway which requires the rental of a 4x4, available at both Hilo and Kona airports. Hobbit House rates are exceptionally reasonable. Checks and money orders are accepted; no credit cards or smoking, please. A continental breakfast is served each morning.

"There is something about the lack of 90 degree angles-the curvaciousness of the wood, the windows...that feels so peaceful, so beautiful." -Mari, CA.
