If you thought Buddhism is a monastic celibate tradition centered on monks and nuns and meditation only you must discover and experience Shin Buddhism (known as Jodo Shinshu in Japanese). Shin Buddhism originates with the unfolding of the Dharmakaya as Bodhisattva Dharmakara (Amitabha-Amitayus) or Amida Buddha, the Buddha of Immeasurable Life and Infinite Light, as expounded by Sakyamuni Buddha in Ancient India. It traces its lineage from Sakyamuni to Nagarjuna, Vasubandhu (both of India), T’an-luan, Tao-ch’o, Shan-tao (of China), Genshin and Honen (of Japan). Shinran was a direct disciple of Honen who is the founder of the Jodo Sect in Kamakura Japan. Any serious quest for Enlightenment cannot overlook the writings of Shinran now compiled under the title of "The Collected Works of Shinran." Two hard cover volumes comprise a set of the text with Volume One, "The Writings" (704 pages) and Volume Two (362 pages), "Introductions, Glossaries, and Reading Aids" published by Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha, Kyoto, Japan, copyright 1997. Some illustrations included. Highly recommended for students and academicians of religious studies. Discover the world of Other Power of Amitabha-Amitayus, which lies beyond the arena of Self-Power, and the Pure Land-a world of Inconceivable Wisdom and Unconditional Compassion that includes one and all within its sphere.
