.....paddling at the Wailua River.....
Dear Friends of Pu'uwai:
On behalf of Pu'uwai Canoe club, the Board of Directors, Officers and members gratefully acknowledge your contribution which helps us to continue our programs and supports our efforts to maintain and acquire safe, high quality equipment.
Pu'uwai Canoe Club was founded in 1990 to meet the need for an active canoe club on the East side of Kauai. Hui O Mana Ka Pu'uwai, meaning "from the heart,"was chosen to describe the paddlers whose strength comes from their hearts. Wailua, named "two waters" for the two streams flowing from Wai'ale'ale that converge to make the river, is the longest navigable river in the state. Many culturally significant sites, including heiau (sacred temples), pohaku ho'ohanau (birthstones) and pu'uhonua (a place of refuge), encompass the Wailua region.
Some of the programs and activities for youth and adults that Pu'uwai has sponsored over the past ten years include our:
Currently, Pu'uwai Canoe Club has approximately 100 members, with the fastest growing section being our Na 'Opio program for youth. Our immediate goals are to purchase and maintain our canoes, continue to put on our races, and strengthen our paddling programs. Our long-term goal is to establish a permanent site on the Wailua River for club activities, equipment storage and community events.
Pu'uwai Canoe Club is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization (TIN #99-0285770). Contributions to Pu'uwai Canoe Club are tax deductible, and checks should be made out to Pu'uwai Canoe Club. We would be happy to discuss your preference for public recognition of your support at events and in the media.
Your donation helps us to provide these programs for our community and to continue the legacy of Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling in Wailua.
Mahalo for your kokua,
