Marty Dread - Reggae for Love
Five Corners Music, 1996
Hawai'i loves reggae, and Hawaiian culture and song blend with reggae to create the music of Marty Dread, a star on Maui who is shining over all the Islands. Marty Dread's parents moved to Maui when he was a young boy. He grew up with the surf, sounds and tunes of these Islands to become a leading reggae performer, composer and recording artist.
Marty Dread has promoted reggae in Hawai'i for nine years-since he was a teenager-with his own Saturday night reggae radio show statewide on the KAOI radio group. He is now heard Saturday evenings on KNUK, 103.7. Through radio and live shows he brings Hawaiian themes to the reggae beat. His new CD, Reggae for Love, features 14 songs and over an hour of music, including the already popular When It's Over and Ready for Love.
It follows his CD called Versatile Roots, which includes Reggae Rock Maui Style, Shanking Party and Reggae Blues, a duet with famed songwriter Kris Kristofferson.
Just turned 27, Marty Dread already has nine years of constant live performance under his belt. Fronting a reggae band is the way Marty Dread has made a living since graduating from high school. Dread's dynamic, crowd-pleasing live show has opened up for most of the reggae greats passing through the Islands, including Steel Pulse, Jimmy Cliff, Black Uhuru, Third World, Inner Circle, Maxi Priest, Ziggy Marley and Yellowman.
Marty Dread flies Mahalo Air and flies the Mahalo Air banner at many of his concerts. His music is distributed by Olinda Road and promoted by Seventh Wave.
