Mark Daniells is an artist living on the island of Kauai.
He was born in California and at the age of five moved to Micronesia where
his parents took jobs with the Trust Territory of the Pacific. For the next
ten years he lived amidst the lush and colorful South Pacific landscape
and lifestyle. Spending these years absorbing the images of lush tropical
plant life and frequentlydiving in the lagoons with multi-hued fish have
contributed to his sensitivity and passion for painting.
Returning to Santa Cruz, California as a teenager he continued his education
and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor's
of Fine Arts degree. Later the same year he traveled to Europe, visited
the museums and studied art in Copenhagen where he had his first showing.
Since that time he studied at the Institute for Experimental Printmaking
now centered in San Fransisco.
After moving to Hawaii in 1981, his work has been exhibited in numerous
fine galleries and many private and corporate collections, the most notable
being the Princeville Sheraton's origional hotel, the Sheraton Poipu Hotel
and the former Westin Kauai Lagoons.
He was named Emerging Artist of the Year by the Jean Charlot Foundation
at a show at the Ramsay Art Gallery on Oahu in 1988. Ron Ronck , a noted
author, featured him on the " Arts Page" inthe Honolulu Advertiser
for this event.
Currently Mark works out of his Studio / Gallery in Hanalei and has included
etched glass, and wood carving to his fields of workin addition to watercolors
and oil. The business end of art occupies the other time in his work schedule
and has focusedmore recently on making reproductions of the many pieces
that have been commissioned. He now has fifteen prints in production.
