1. Why should we restructure education which integrates technology?

We need to restructure education to integrate technology if we want our students to play a productive role in our informational world. According to the article, Reinventing Schools, " seventy-five percent of Americans now work in service and information jobs with nearly half of all Americans involved in the generation, dissemination, and use of information." Integrating technology is the key to restructuring and reshaping education if we are to meet the needs of this generation.

2. According to the journal, what is needed in order for restructuring to occur?

Teachers, administrators, parents, and business and government leaders all share the responsibility for seeing that technology is used wisely in our schools. They must support the classroom teacher in integrating technology into the curriculum. Teachers need "After-school workshops, summer session classes, and time off from their classes to learn how technology is being used elsewhere. They need to be able to observe their colleagues' classrooms and talk with them so that they can unlearn old practices and build new ones." It also stated that "In the long run for technology to succeed, as much time and money must be invested in teachers as is invested in the actual hardware and software."

3. What do you feel would be your next step in restructuring your teaching?

The next step in restructuring my teaching is the most challenging task to accomplish. It will be a continuous learning process as I restructure my teaching to integrate technology. The first thing I will do is to learn how to utilize the computer effectively so that it can be used as an educational learning tool rather than use as "play toy" when students are finish with their work. I will need to network with other educators and search the web for activities and ideas. I will also have to collaborate with other support staff (librarian, reading teacher, tech coordinator) regarding various projects that we could use to integrate technology into the school curriculum.
