A pavilion, a house of spirit, a dodecahedron he says with glee
Twelve feet from wall to center our measures guarantee
And twelve sides, why twelve, you ask of me,
Twelve reasons, twelve heartbeats, twelve breadths of chi,
A fine number divisible by two, by four, by six, by three,
I'll tell you that twelve is a magic number, I'll plead my plea
We measure length dividing twelve inches in a foot, you see,
Time we measure twelve hours from sun's apogee to perigee,
And years divide into twelve months, we all agree.
Jesus had twelve apostles, each a special devotee,
And Israel's twelve tribes from Egypt did flee,
A circle divides by twelve each a perfect thirty degree
Twelve eggs a dozen make, each a possible chicken wee.
And one of the zodiac's twelve signs my birth decree.
So here we are enjoying this party, this fling, this jamboree
In honor of twelve, a baker's dozen, one more for free.
