ABOUT NEW THOUGHT CENTER OF HAWAII

In a world being portrayed as a checkerboard pattern of good and evil, we New Thought practitioners hold to the belief that we are all sparks of the divine, rays of the great spirit, Christ conscious souls, Allah's children and that, with time on our side, we will eventually manifest a healed and  inclusive world in which this truth is its finest expression.

By providing a loving, accepting, non-judgmental community, we at NewThought Center of Hawaii create a sanctuary for the nourishment, development, and evolution of each person's unique spiritual path.
The circle we sit in represents our inclusiveness and our equality. We have no minister. We take turns facilitating, and we minister to each other. In addition to sharing our own spiritual insights, we invite teachers from all wisdom traditions. We invite and honor such variety and in ourselves and in the world around us. We understand that no single source has exclusivity of spiritual truth, health and joy and that there is much to be learned from many of these sources.

We gather every Sunday at 10 a.m. in Kealakekua at Pualani Terrace just south of the Kealakekua Library. You are invited to join the circle.      Morty Breier pres. and board of NTCH.

HUMOR (Jewish)

CLEAN GLASS
I went into a Jewish restaurant with a friend of mine who's a bit hypochondriac. I ordered a glass of tea and he said "I'll have some too, and make sure the glass is clean."
A little while later the waiter came back with our two teas. "OK" he said,"which one of you wanted the clean glass.?"

PREFERS KTA
Two ladies were talking. " I think women like us should take a greater interest in politics. Tell me what do you think of the Common Market?" I still prefer KTA" said the second.

BIRTHDAY PRESENT
Bennie and Moe, living in NY wanted to give their mother, living in Kona, a new and different birthday present. They went from store to store until to their delight, they found a parrot that spoke Yiddish. This astonishing bird cost $500 but the devoted sons decided it was worth it. Think of the hours of pleasure their old mother, living in Hawaii, would derive conversing with this extraordinary parrot; and think of the admiration the bird would elicit among mamma's friends...
So the sons bought the beautiful gilded cage placed the parrot inside and had the singular birthday gift packed and shipped to Kona. In great excitement they telephoned: "Mamma, mamma how did you like your present.
    "Delicious."

"AHA!" SAYS GOLDSTEIN
Goldstein sat down at Rapport's restaurant and ordered a bowl of borscht. The waiter brought it and set it down in front of him.
A few minutes later Goldstein calls back the waiter.
"Is there something wrong with the soup?" the waiter asks.
    "Yes" Goldstein says.
    "What's wrong?" says the waiter.
    "Taste it" says Goldstein.
    "Taste it?" says the waiter.
    "Taste it" says Goldstein.
The waiter, meaning to comply with the customer's request, searches the table for the soup spoon.
"Where's the spoon? the waiter asks.
    "Aha!" says Goldstein.

THE PARADOX OF OUR TIME IS THAT:
We have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints.
We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less.

These are the days of fast foods and slow digestion.
These are the days of big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships.

THE THREE TREES, author anonymous  via Judith Lynne

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods.  They were discussing
their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, "Someday I hope to be a
treasure chest.  I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems.  I
could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty."
Then the second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship.  I will take
kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world.
Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull."
Finally the third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and
straightest tree in the forest.  People will see me on top of the hill and
look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to
them I am reaching.  I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will
always remember me."
After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of
woodsmen came upon the trees.  When one came to the first tree he said, This
looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a
carpenter" ... and he began cutting it down.  The tree was happy, because he
knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.
At the second tree a woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree, I should
be able to sell it to the shipyard."  The second tree was happy because he
knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.
When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because
he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true.
One of the woodsmen said, "I don't need anything special from my tree so I'll
take this one", and he cut it down."
When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box
for animals.  He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay.
This was not at all what he had prayed for.  The second tree was cut and made
into a small fishing boat.  His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying
kings had come to an end.  The third tree was cut into large pieces and left
alone in the dark.  The years went by, and the trees forgot about their
dreams.
Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn.  She gave birth and they
placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree.
The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger
would have to do.  The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew
that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.
Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second
tree.  One of them was tired and went to sleep.  While they were out on the
water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to
keep the men safe.  The men woke the sleeping man, and he stood and said
"Peace" and the storm stopped.  At this time, the tree knew that it had
carried the King of Kings in its boat.
Finally, someone came and got the third tree.  It was carried through the
streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it.  When they came to
a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the
top of a hill.  When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong
enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was
possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.
The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way,
always know that God has a plan for you.  If you place your trust in Him, He
will give you great gifts.  Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not
in the way they had imagined.  We don't always know what God's plans are for
us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

PERSONALS:
You are invited to send in your "Personals"

- The owner of my current residence returns to the island January 20th, and I am eager to discover a new home for myself. It should be one that provides a pleasant and supportive place for me to do my sound healing work, both in private sessions and in small groups. I would prefer a cooler elevation anywhere from above the airport southward to Captain Cook. A two bedroom home with an ocean view would be nice. Actually a long term housesit with a baby grand piano in good working order would be really great! (Well, why not! we're talking about manifesting something wonderful here.) If anyone knows of anything that would be appropriate, please call me (Judith Lynne) at 987-8099. Mahalo nui loa!

- Seeking a space to rent in a private garden or land to put up my tent with access to flowing water near a street in Kealakekua, Captain Cook, Kailua or Honaunau. Susanne;  anancy4webfairy@yahoo.com

I will be looking for a new HOUSEMATE as of April 1. I have a great 3 bedroom house alongside the stream in Niulii, just before the turn-off to Keokea Beach (past Hawi and Kapaau, 2 miles before the end of the road at Pololu). My housemate has 1 bedroom, primary use of a separate bathroom, and a screened-in carport which includes a separate cooking area. The rent is $425 month plus $75 for utilities. Whoever shares this space with me needs to know that I am gone a lot and when I go away I sublet my half of the house, so you would have a variety of housemates. I'm looking for someone who doesn't smoke and is reasonably quiet.
My half of the house will be available to SUBLET FROM MARCH 1-8 for $175 and from APRIL 1 to THE END OF JUNE OR JULY (not sure yet) for $500 month including utilities. My phone number is 889-0040.
I will be out of town from Jan. 30 to Feb 22. I already have my place sublet for that time, but I'm mentioning it because I won't be able to interview people during that time. (I'll be teaching in Australia - I'm quite excited!)  a hui ho

SPIRITUAL MESSAGE

A DIFFERENT KIND OF PRAYER via Barbara Concoby

Heavenly Father,
Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and was rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not just to those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, with patience, empathy and love.

AFFIRMATION

Death is, to us here, the most terrible work we know.
But when we have tasted its reality
it will mean to us birth, deliverance, a new creation of ourselves.

READER FEEDBACK (continued)

  - Re: God's voice mail.     I certainly hope that if heaven is run in English,
the voice will say,"Your call will be answer in the order IN WHICH it was
received." People have been hearing "the order it was received' for so
long that they don't notice that it's incorrect.      AB

 - Would it be unkind to point out to AB that God's voice mail would have said
"you're call will be ANSWERED..."  The typo is as funny/or serious as
the point the AB wants to make about the proper use of the language.         Ted

- Nice try, Ted, but God's voice mail wouldn't say "YOU'RE call...", it would
say "YOUR call..." (grin).  On the other hand, perhaps heaven is filled with
easy-going people who aren't bothered by such things, and God lets them
record her outgoing message, to the annoyance of the rest of us. -- JL

THE PARADOX OF OUR TIME IS THAT:
We have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints.
We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment.
We have more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry.
We stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We write more, but learn less.
We plan more, but accomplish less.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We've added years to life not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back,
but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.
We conquered outer space but not inner space.
We've done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait.
We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies
but communicate less and less.

These are the days of fast foods and slow digestion.
These are the days of big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships.
These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands.
These are the days of overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
These are the days when there is much in the showroom  window and nothing in the stockroom.
These are the days when technology can bring you this letter and you choose either to share it or hit delete.

Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe,
because that little person will soon grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you,
because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it.
Remember that a kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Remember to give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
