Dear Mr. Gaspar:
Thank you for contacting my office regarding your concerns with the State's economy.
I have been working very hard in the Legislature and in the Education, Higher Education,
Transportation, and the Labor and Public Employment committees on which I serve,
or any legislation concerning the revitalizing our economy. I have said on the floor,
in committees, and during several public appearances, that I remain committed in
my opposition to any new taxes or increase in taxes. In a informational hearing on
April 6 to the Labor and Public Employment Committee I had the opportunity to talk
with Dr. Naya, Mr. Ansai and Mr. Mossmen and they stated that the GET increase was
to pay for the income tax decrease.
We need to reduce the size of government and the amount of taxation. Then, the
economy will improve as the people have more money to spend. Be aware that the General
Excise Tax increase proposal does not to fund programs. According to our most recent
information, it is solely to take the place of revenues lost through tax credits
and the reduction of income taxes proposed by the Economic Revitalization Task Force.
The GET would not be used to build schools, pay teachers salaries, or provide books
for our children.
Please remember the advertisements for the Economic Revitalization Task Force
Plan you see on television are paid for by entities who will directly benefit from
this plan.
Please do not hesitate to contact my office at 586-8500 if you have additional concerns or information you feel I should be aware of.
Sincerely,
Mark Moses
