Mr. Herman M. Aizawa, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Education
Office of the Superintendent
1390 Miller Street
Honolulu, Hawaii 96813
Dear Dr. Aizawa:
As you know, during the period July to September 1996, we successfully completed
the design Charette for the Kapolei Middle School. In the 1997 session of the Hawaii
State Legislature we were able to secure the funding to build and equip the school.
Further, in that session we were successful in obtaining $1,000,000 for planning
of Kapolei High School. As the Kapolei Middle School will open in August 1999 with
sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, and those eighth graders will graduate in 2000,
it is prudent for us to set the goal for opening of Kapolei High School to coincide
with the graduation of the eighth graders in 2000. This will preclude sending our
children to Ilima Intermediate School for one year and then to Campbell High School
until completion of their twelfth grade; or even to Ilima, then Campbell, then to
Kapolei High School upon its opening.
I will do my utmost in the upcoming legislative sessions to secure the necessary
funding for the High School.
This letter is to urge an early start to the planning for the Kapolei High School
as we did for the Middle School. I believe now is not too soon to form a task force
and steering committee and begin the Charette process.
I would be privileged to serve on the task force and steering committee as I have
and continue to do for the Kapolei Middle School.
Your thoughts on this matter are requested and as always will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely yours,
Mark Moses
