Report to the Ewa Neighborhood Board No. 23 - August 12, 1999

Ewa Walk August 28th:

Join us August 28th at 3:30 p.m. for the Third Annual Historic Ewa Evening Walk. Ewa is probably the most unique community on the island - and is made for walking. For $10 a family you get the historic walking map and dinner. The proceeds go to senior citizens groups in Ewa. A brochure is attached, or call Ewa Elementary School at 681-8202.

One`ula Beach Park Master Plan:

A community meeting on the One`ula Beach Park project, regional recreational resources, and the master plan will be held Saturday, August 21, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Ewa Beach Elementary School Cafeteria, 91-740 Papipi Road.

Ewa Beach Community Park:
Neighborhood Board Member Karen Wenke raised several concerns regarding Ewa Beach Community Park maintenance and safety at the June and July meetings. I contacted Parks Director Bill Balfour several times on this matter and he tells me the repairs have been completed. The correspondence is attached.

Ewa/Kapolei/Makakilo/Waianae/Waimanalo Environmental Meeting

Last month Hawaii’s Thousand Friends sponsored a session on "How can the Ewa/Kapolei/Makakilo Residents Address Environmental Issues Better?" Similar programs were held in Waianae and Waimanalo using an EPA Environmental Justice grant.

The second meeting is August 17th at the State Capitol from 1:30 to 5:30. This session will bring together people from the three communities to focus on dealing with the legislature on environmental, community and planning issues. Part of program is meeting with your elected representatives and learning from them about the process and the problems.
