Memorandum
Date: March 11, 1998
To: Those interested in Kapolei Middle and High Schools
From: Representative Mark Moses
This information is provided to keep you informed of the history and progress
of the Kapolei Middle and High School projects. Included is my testimony before the
Honolulu City and County Planning Commission in 1994, before I was elected to the
House.
A Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) summary reflecting the results of the 1997
Legislative Session is attached. Next you will find a CIP summary indicating what
has been included in the House budget so far for 1998. Remember we are only half
way through this session and I will continue to fight for the high school and other
projects to make the Second City a reality. The Capital Improvement Projects Bills
(HB 3104 and HB 3266) which I submitted for District 42 are attached for your information.
At this stage of the Legislative process, funding for the Middle School has been
indicated, but that for the Kapolei High School is still being sought. Please see
the attached letter to Representative Calvin Say, Chair, House Finance Committee
urging the required funding.
Also included is a copy of letters from me to Mr. Herman M. Aizawa, Ph.D., Superintendent of Education requesting the date for opening the High School be moved up to the year 2000, and his response. Finally, letters from Katherine T. Kawaguchi, Kapolei Middle and High School Projects Coordinator are included for your information.
If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
