Village Park Residents Were Right - Their Health Has Been Damaged
Representative Mark Moses, (R - Makakilo, Kapolei, Ewa, Honouliuli, Village Park, Royal Kunia and Kunia) today announced that it appears the people of Village Park were right in suspecting their health may have been damaged by pesticides and other chemicals in the air, soil, and water. "The health survey conducted by the law firm of Tam and Stanford indicates there is a higher than expected occurrence of learning disabilities, cancer, lupus, and asthma among Village Park residents," Moses said.
"Last session we were able to get $220,000 appropriated for soil testing based solely upon testimony by Village Park residents" Moses continued. "This survey gives me ammunition to get a rigorous and definitive scientific health study conducted." Moses added he "expects the Hawaii Department of Health and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to view this as a serious health problem and to promptly initiate action to protect the public."
Moses went on to say "we need to expand our efforts and look into the health of people in adjacent communities such as Royal Kunia." "Common sense tells me that if we have health problems on one side of the street in Village Park, we will also have some on the other side of the street in Royal Kunia" Moses concluded. "Perhaps we can spend some money on Village Park and Royal Kunia instead of on Kossovo and North Korea."
Moses added "the community owes a debt of gratitude to Citizens for a Safe Environment, and Life of the Land, for their tireless efforts to find the truth, and for their refusal to take no for an answer." "Bob Achi, Cherylann Yamane, Max Mueller, Henry Curtis and Kat Brady deserve the credit for keeping this whole matter in the public eye."
