"I'm hip as ever"
I am recovering from hip surgery but rest assured I am still hip. The hip problem is a result of many years of steroid use for control of my Systematic Lupus Erythematosus. The high doses of steroids I was on for many years help resolve some Lupus related problems but also can also have serious side effects. In my case it caused some of the bone in my hip to break. About the last three weeks of the Legislative session I experienced pain but as I was on 45 conference committees among them civil service reform, minimum wage, ers along with many others I thought it my duty to stay the course. After session was over I went to the hospital and learned my hip was broken and underwent surgery where screws were installed to hold the hip together. I now must keep weight off the hip for several weeks as the bone heals. Many of you have written or phoned words of support. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your many words of encouragement and support du ring my recovery. Your words have given me strength and vitality and my family and I greatly appreciate your outpouring of Aloha!
