Legislators Back To School Day
I'm happy to be a participant in the Legislator's Back to School Day in Hawaii. Of the 59 schools that participated statewide, 3 are located in District 42, and I visited a total of 8 classrooms, and 97 students. It was an opportunity for me to speak to our school children about civic duties, our form of government, and democracy. Attached is a summary statistic as of October 9, 2000.
Central Oahu Zone Change Request
On October 11, the Planning Commission of the City and County of Honolulu held a public hearing on the request for change in zoning from I-1 Limited Industrial District to B-1 Neighborhood Business District with a 30-foot height limit on the location at Kunia Road, Royal Kunia, Oahu, Hawaii. This zone change will provide opportunities for area residents to shop at 41 acres of land to be developed into an entertainment center with game pavilions, stores, and other shopping areas. There will be further readings and meetings to discuss the future plans of this shopping center. For more information call Mr. Bob McGraw of the City and County of Honolulu Planning Commission at 523-4430.
Public Hearing
The Department of Environmental Services, City and County of Honolulu, will hold a public hearing for revision of a hydrologic map for the Barber's Point Ocean Area in the City's 208 Water Quality Plan. There are more than 3 million gallons per day per shoreline mile of freshwater discharge (including streams and underground springs, but excluding the sewage outfall) into the water near Barbers Point. This will affect which water quality standards are applied to the area, due to the pollutant and nutrient loading from the freshwater sources. This hearing will be held on Friday, October 13, 2000, at the Ilima Intermediate School Cafeteria at 7:00 pm. (see attched)
